John 11; Romans 8:29
Can you feel the tension, the anxiety, the stress mount with the presidential election just two days from now?
Christians are telling other Christians to take a stand for Christ in this election.
Some Christians passionately claim voting for Joe Biden is the Christian thing to do. Others, just as passionately, can be heard saying the only way a Christian should vote is for Donald Trump.
Christians should take a stand. But, what does it look like for a follower of Jesus Christ to take a stand before and after an election?
Scott Ridout, the president of Converge (the denomination FBC Falun is affiliated with) wrote this week in an email:
“I sense that the church's response to this election will set a tone of opportunity or challenge that will ripple into 2021 and beyond.”
What kind of Christian stand will lead to opportunities to share the message of God's love in Jesus Christ? What kind of misstep could hurt that?
This message, Christians Should Take a Stand, But How? explores the question, "What should it look life for Christians and churches to take a stand?"
The story of the death and raising of Lazarus in the Gospel of John chapter 11 provides a surprising place to glimpse what it means for a follower of Jesus to take a stand.
Could it be when Christians take a stand they look like Jesus?

No Other Gods #4 • Mark 10:28-30
Some Christians ask, "How could any Christian vote for Joe Biden?"
Other Christians say, "You can't be a Christian and vote for Donald Trump."
What do you think Jesus would say if you asked him, "Which way should I vote?"
Jesus had a way of moving beyond the either or answers people often look for from him.
We humans basically look guidance when making choices about behavior in one of two philosophies for life.
#1 Is there set of rules, a code, out there somewhere that can guide me as I make choices?
#2 What does my heart say, what dream is buried withing and how can I make it come true?
Some answer the question, "Jesus, which way should I vote?" according to philosophy #1 and others according to philosophy #2. But what about Jesus?
Take a good look at Mark chapter 10 and see if you can get a sense of how Jesus would answer the question, "Jesus, which way should I vote?"

No Other Gods #1 • Mark 10:17-23
The message focuses on the deeply intimate question asked of Jesus by a burdened, wealthy young man, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus' answer doesn't focus on personal discovery or obeying rules, but on something deeper and much more powerful: becoming who you were intended to be, becoming truly human.
